Working outside in the field, through the seasons and in all weathers is at the heart of what I do, to become deeply absorbed in every nuance of my surroundings. The elements themselves play a part in shaping the work; the delicate tracings of ice that remain captured in paint on a cold day or the speckling of rain drops from a passing squall. Each place and encounter has it’s own unique atmosphere, the serendipity of chance, wildlife that appears and vanishes in the blink of an eye or lingers and creates a little piece of magic as I observe.

I work this way because it allows me to spend so much of my time outdoors surrounded by nature which I find nourishing and fulfilling, to be actively involved in conservation efforts and to share and celebrate the wonders of the natural world.

Spring news

i’m looking forward to several projects, trips and ideas for this year and excited to see what they will bring...

. New for 2026 will be a week of painting and teaching outdoors on the isle of skye with ‘wild at art’ and i’m really looking forward to sharing some of the places i’ve known and loved ever since childhood. i’m also partnering with scottish wildlife trust to host a one day immersive workshop based at one of their beautiful reserves, with woodland, a loch, hides and exclusive use of the visitor certre, it promises to be a real joy.
